Notes: Day 1 Content:
Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) Operation and Utilization – It takes a computer to
talk to the computers on today’s vehicles. When working with Ford vehicles,
the IDS is best tool available for the job. This hands-on class provides tech-
nicians with the skills and knowledge required for using this tool including:
• IDS components, preferences and vehicle identification
• Self-tests and the use and interpretation of datalogger
• Active Commands
• On-board module programming
This class is recommended for all service technicians that use this tool for
vehicle diagnosis and service.

Day 2 Content:
Ford Ecoboost® Engine Diagnosis and Service – Improving fuel economy and reducing
emissions, without sacrificing vehicle performance is the purpose of the groundbreaking Ford Eco-
boost® Engine. Accomplishing this feat requires the latest in automotive technology. The skills and
knowledge required to maintain Ecoboost® equipped vehicles is essential for fleets that deploy
them. This hands-on class delivers these skills and knowledge including:
• Ecoboost engine variants
• High pressure fuel systems
• Turbocharger operation, diagnosis and service
• Unique Ecoboost® diagnostic techniques
This training is recommended for intermediate to advanced technicians.
A training program provided by Ford, focusing on teaching technicians how to diagnose issues with electronically controlled automatic transmissions in Ford vehicles, and how to perform necessary repairs while the transmission remains in the vehicle, utilizing specialized tools and diagnostic equipment provided by FordKey aspects of this training include:
  • Diagnostic tools and procedures:
    Learning to use Ford's dedicated scan tools to read and interpret transmission related fault codes, identifying potential problems within the electronic control module (TCM) and transmission components. 
     
  • Understanding transmission operation:
    Studying the mechanics of how an electronic automatic transmission functions, including the role of solenoids, pressure regulators, and torque converter, to accurately diagnose shifting issues. 
     
  • Common transmission problems:
    Identifying typical malfunctions like delayed shifting, rough shifting, slipping gears, and excessive heat, and understanding the potential causes behind them. 
     
  • Fluid level and quality checks:
    Proper inspection and maintenance of transmission fluid, including checking levels, color, and consistency to ensure optimal transmission performance. 
     
  • In-vehicle repairs:
    Performing repairs without removing the transmission from the vehicle, such as replacing transmission filters, adjusting linkage, inspecting external seals and hoses, and checking for leaks.
